Your goal is to create a radio commercial that explains to listeners what you learned. Because this is a commercial, your goal is to sell your food by explaining to listeners what makes is unique or special as a food with an interesting history.
Radio commercials are inherently cheesy, its one of the ways they get people's attention.
Radio commercials are inherently cheesy, its one of the ways they get people's attention.
- Some of the best are older commercials, from the times before TV was invented and people could only listen to the radio. Here is a link lots of old radio commercials to give you some ideas. You should pay attention to the ways the commercial tries to sell their product, as well as the sound effects and music used in addition to the voices. You'll notice that a LOT of the products use jingles, especially at the beginning of their clip. Think about the type of jingle that might be used to sell your food and make your audience understand where its come from.
- Newer commercials are also cheesy, especially because they try SO hard to sound "cool" or "hip". This website is for a company that one could hire to professionally produce radio commercials for a product/company and might offer good inspiration for modern commercials.
Once you are inspired by some of these commercials it is time to try writing your own. You will need to write a script for your podcast/commercial before you can record and turn it in to Ms. Smith. Again, use Google Docs and make sure you add Ms. Smith so that she can view it and make suggestions as needed. A sample (Ms. Smith's script) can be found here.
Some suggestions on how to write a script for a radio commercial can be found here.
When writing your script you need to think about the words your narrator will speak and also the types of sound effects or music you will need to use to make your commercial really "sell" your product.
Remember: You need to explain to the audience these important things:

Remember: You need to explain to the audience these important things:
- where the food comes from (geographic place as well as the people or culture who made it)
- how we came to eat this food (how did this food diffuse into our culture)
- how should your target audience (consumers) use this food/why should they buy it
